Introduction

HestiaCP is a powerful and user-friendly open-source control panel that simplifies the management of web servers. It offers a wide range of features such as website hosting, email management, DNS configuration, and database administration. In this article, we will provide a detailed guide on how to install HestiaCP on a cloud server, enabling you to set up a robust hosting environment quickly and efficiently.

Step 1: Preparing the Cloud Server Before installing HestiaCP, it is essential to set up a cloud server with a supported Linux distribution, such as Ubuntu 18.04 or 20.04. Ensure that the server meets the minimum system requirements, including sufficient RAM, CPU, and disk space. Additionally, make sure you have root or sudo access to the server.

Step 2: Connect to the Server To connect to the cloud server, you can use a secure shell (SSH) client such as PuTTY (for Windows) or the Terminal (for macOS/Linux). Use the appropriate credentials to establish an SSH connection to the server.

Step 3: Update the System Before proceeding with the installation, it is recommended to update the system packages to their latest versions. Run the following command to update the system:

sqlCopy codesudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

Step 4: Download the HestiaCP Installation Script HestiaCP provides a convenient installation script that automates the installation process. Download the installation script by running the following command:

rubyCopy codecurl -O https://raw.githubusercontent.com/hestiacp/hestiacp/release/install/hst-install.sh

Step 5: Run the Installation Script Once the script is downloaded, make it executable using the following command:

bashCopy codechmod +x hst-install.s

Then, execute the installation script with root privileges:

Copy codesudo bash hst-install.sh

Step 6: Follow the Installation Wizard The installation script will launch an interactive installation wizard. Follow the prompts to configure various settings, such as the hostname, email address, and desired admin username and password. You can choose the components you want to install, including Nginx, Apache, PHP, and other optional packages.

Step 7: Wait for the Installation to Complete The installation process may take some time, depending on the speed of your server and the selected components. The script will automatically download and install all the necessary packages and dependencies.

Step 8: Access the HestiaCP Control Panel Once the installation is complete, the script will provide you with the URL and login credentials to access the HestiaCP control panel. Access the provided URL using a web browser, and log in with the admin username and password you set during the installation.

Step 9: Configure HestiaCP Settings Upon logging in to the control panel, take some time to configure HestiaCP’s settings according to your requirements. This includes setting up DNS, creating websites, managing email accounts, and configuring other hosting-related parameters.

Conclusion

By following this step-by-step guide, you can install HestiaCP on a cloud server and set up a robust hosting environment. HestiaCP’s user-friendly interface and comprehensive feature set make it an ideal choice for managing web servers efficiently.

In this article, let’s discuss Server Automation Tips on cPanel Server.

Server Automation is essential at times to undertake critical operational tasks when there is no other way to do so from the control panel. cPanel is a remarkable control panel with nearly all the available tools and scripts to do the desired operation. cPanel does not support or facilitate the execution of a large number of such automation operations. In this article, we will explore some small techniques for server automation with cPanel.

What exactly is Server Automation?

It is essentially a little function or task in which the DevOps engineer writes a specific script in bash or Perl. Bash Shell provides the ability to execute many commands sequentially in script format. This script is commonly referred to as a bash or shell script. Bourne shell (sh), designed by Brian Fox and initially released in 1989, superseded the Bash shell.

The script will automate a number of server administration tasks, saving us both time and effort. In a shell script, we are able to generate logic for the various administrator challenges and automatically trigger them without requiring user input. It will also boost work efficiency and decrease human mistakes by managing workflows in such a way that they function automatically without the intervention of administrators.

Traditional server management responsibilities consist of hundreds of infrastructure components and are therefore highly difficult. This is where server automation occurs in order to simplify administrative tasks and respond rapidly to difficulties by developing the appropriate logic.

Bash shell provides various features, such as user-defined Variables, System-defined Variable, Command Substitution, Positional Parameters, Parameter Expansion, Subshells, Flow Control, Test Conditions, Iteration statements, Function, Array, Dictionary, Case and select statements, Parallel execution, etc., to enable the development of robust and powerful scripts to address numerous server-level changes.

Imagine a security emergency in which you need to reset the passwords of all users’ accounts simultaneously. We are aware that it is not a best practice to reset passwords with a script, but it can be difficult to ask every user to reset their password in an emergency security issue.

Here is an example of a bash script that enables us to reset the cpanel account passwords for all domains and store them in a file that can be subsequently downloaded and used to provide the passwords.

#!/bin/bash

for i in $(cut -f2 -d ‘:’ /etc/trueuserdomains)

do

p=$(tr -cd ‘[:alnum:]’ < /dev/urandom | fold -w32 | head -n1)

whmapi1 passwd user=${i} password=”${p}”

echo “${i} : ${p}” >> .cred

done

column -t .cred > user_pass_update.txt && rm -f .cred

Consider another scenario in which you are restoring a server and wish to generate command-line backups of all accounts. This script can be used to generate backups of all cPanel user accounts and store them in the /backup directory:

#!/bin/bash

cd /backup

mkdir ACCOUNT_BACKUP && cd $_

for i in $(cut -f2 -d ‘:’ /etc/trueuserdomains)

do

/scripts/pkgacct ${i} ${PWD} >> backup.log

echo “${i} – completed” >> status.log

done

Another situation that may emerge during server restoration is the need for a backup of only the databases. The script below can be used to create a backup of all user account databases on the current path.

#!/bin/bash

mkdir MYSQL_BACKUP && cd $_

mkdir etc dumps

cp -a /etc/my.cnf etc

cd dumps

for i in $(mysql -sse ‘show databases’ | egrep -v ‘sys|information_schema|performance_schema’)

do

mysqldump ${i} > ${i}.sql

done

The script below is used to restore all user accounts from a cPanel backup; the backup path will be prompted during execution. The script requires the location of account backup files placed on archive files such as EG: username.tar.gz

#!/bin/bash

read –p “Please enter the account backup files location [EG: /backup/date/accounts/]: ” location

cd ${location}

for i in *.gz

do

/scripts/restorepkg ${i} ${PWD} >> restoration.log

echo “${i} – completed” >> status.log

Done

Conclusion

Server Automation is essential at times to undertake critical operational tasks when there is no other way to do so from the control panel. cPanel does not support or facilitate the execution of a large number of such automation operations. It is essentially a little function or task in which the DevOps engineer writes a specific script in bash or Perl.

A web-based control panel can be used to manage your website, web hosting account, and server all at once.

On the domain management side, it can be used to set up email accounts as well as other things.

Web panels, which are typically accessed via a browser and are designed to be simple to use, are also available.

If you have a web hosting control panel and an internet-connected computer, you can monitor and modify server configurations from anywhere in the world.

Security and statistics are included in most control panels as standard features.

Most web hosting providers offer control panels as standard practice.

Every one of these options has its own set of features and functionality.

The quality of your web hosting experience will be affected by these factors.

You no longer have to type long control commands into a black screen when using a graphical user interface, as there was in the early days of computer systems.

Command icons can be selected and clicked on using the mouse.

Most people prefer visual interfaces because they are faster and easier to use than text-based interfaces.

As a result, cPanel, Plesk, ISP Config, Webmin, DirectAdmin and VestaCP are some of the best Control Panels available.

What does a control panel do for web hosting?

Your web hosting package includes a control panel with a graphical user interface that you can use to manage and monitor your website.

As opposed to manually entering commands, administrative tasks can be carried out via a web interface.

How do I use a web hosting control panel?

Use the virtual dashboard of the web hosting service to monitor and control your servers and hosted services.

There is a control panel for each hosting company.

Once you’ve logged into your hosting account, you’ll see a link to your control panel.

You’ll see a control panel on your screen that you can use to make changes.

To improve your websites, analyse traffic for search engine optimization, and monitor the performance of your website, you can use the statistics.

Take, for example, the number of visitors to your website.
Knowing what browsers your visitors are using and how long they spend on your site is critical.

A control panel can also be used to set up password-protected directories, create an IP whitelist, or simply block access to your site from certain IPs.

From the control panel of your web host, one-click applications can be installed.

Depending on the hosting service and/or third-party app, this feature may or may not be available to the user.

In addition to e-commerce and image galleries, other content management systems exist.

Do I need a control panel for my server?

There’s a common belief that a server management interface (SMI) is necessary.

Control panels are not required to run a server.

This does not, however, preclude one from learning about the server’s capabilities and how to manage it.

A control panel’s automated features make server administration easier and more efficient.

Using the panel to automate server tasks is a good idea.

It is possible to set up an app or delete email addresses from a control panel.

Web Hosting Control Panel Features

A web hosting control panel gives you remote access to your server so that you can make changes from any computer on your network.

User-friendly control panels with a wide range of useful features are offered by all web hosting providers.

A variety of control panels are available, each with a different set of features.

The products do, however, share a few commonalities.

You can do the following things in a web hosting control panel:

Account Administration :It’s possible to renew your subscription, change your billing information, and change your password in the account administration area.

Domain Management :The control panel allows us to manage all of your domain names and IP addresses. Changes can be made to both the domain and subdomain names.

Email management: From the control panel, you can create, manage, and delete email accounts. The use of spam filters for email forwarding can also be set up.

File management: FTP is the protocol of choice for uploading, accessing, and managing files and folders on your server (FTP).Computers with GUIs are required to access FTP (GUI).

Database management: Database and control panel are essential for managing your website’s information.On-premises or in the cloud, the database can be used. The database’s performance can be fine-tuned through the control panel.

Additionally, the following features may be included:

Mail server management and configuration.

Managing SSL certificates.

Monitoring system services.

Support of content management systems, like WordPress.

Web hosting control panels with more advanced features and add-ons are frequently available, allowing you to:

Manage multiple servers from a single interface

Manage multiple Virtual Private Servers (VPS)

Manage security policies

Plesk and cPanel, both are control panels, but their major difference lies in the user interfaces and webserver which they support.

Plesk Interface has similarities to the WordPress admin panel and it also supports Linux and Windows-based Servers where cPanel only supports Linux-based servers.

Let’s check out the comparison between Plesk and cPanel.

Plesk

cPanel

Supported Operating System

Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL, Centos, Cloud Linux, Amazon Linux, Virtuozzo Linux, Windows Server, 2008 R2SP

Centos, Cloud Linux, RHEL 7, Amazon Linux

Web Server

Nginx, Apache

Apache

Migration

We can use the Plesk migration tool for migration

We can use the transfer tool in WHM

Admin access

Same logins are used

Separate logins are used for WHM and cPanel users

Security

Plesk provides features like fail 2 bans (works as a firewall)

WHM (or) Cpanel server security and firewall (CSF, Phulk services)

SSL Certificate

Plesk provides free SSL certificates such as let’s encrypt

Cpanel provides an auto SSL feature for providing a free SSL certificate

WordPress Support

WordPress toolkit feature helps to install and manage WordPress in Plesk

We can use softaculons for installing WordPress and other applications

Database Access

Plesk provides MySQL or MsSQL database servers

Cpanel provides MySQL and Postgresql

Mobile Accessibility

yes

No

Backups

Remote backup options are available like DropBox, AWSS3, Google Drive, and Acronis

Backups can be saved in the same server (or) we can use remote destinations like FTP, AWS S3.
Conclusion

There are various other features on both of these Control panels. Each of them provides outstanding service in their own right. You can choose the better choice based on your OS type and requirements.

cPanel is a Control Panel that uses a Linux-based graphical interface (GUI). cPanel’s main benefit is that it allows you to publish websites, create email accounts, organise online files, manage domains, and much more…. Many web hosting companies, such as Hostinger, Bluehost, and HostGator, have included cPanel in their hosting packages.

In and around the United States, cPanel is the most prevalent control panel.

For cPanel, there are two interfaces: a user interface called cPanel and a server management interface called Web Host Manager. Because of these two interfaces, cPanel is a simple control panel that allows users to administer their websites easily. It also allows hosting providers to use tools to oversee their servers.

Is cPanel a free panel?

As a third-party application, cPanel is not free. Most hosting providers, on the other hand, include cPanel as part of their standard packages at no extra charge. There is, however, a 15-day free trial version available. Following that, some providers will give cPanel for free for the first year, after which they will begin charging a fixed fee in subsequent years.

Many web hosting firms have switched away from cPanel in favour of its competitors as a result of recent pricing increases by cPanel.

Advantages and Disadvantages of cPanel

cPanel, as one of the greatest Control Panels in the world, offers far more benefits than drawbacks. Let us examine the advantages.

Friendly Interface

cPanel features a dual interface, as previously mentioned, and the graphic interface has been developed to be highly responsive and user-friendly. The Control Panel on the user’s machine will be extremely simple to use. In only a few clicks, users may complete system backups and maintenance.

2. Extensive range of high-end features

Coverage of most high-end features is one of cPanel’s greatest features. This helps users who don’t have a lot of technical knowledge to simply access, host, and manage their websites. Anti-virus software protects all cPanel functions, keeping unwanted viruses and malware at bay.

3. High-flexibility

Another benefit of cPanel is that it is extremely adaptable. If you wish to move your website and all of its content from one hosting server to another. It can be completed without difficulty and without any technical difficulties.

4. Compatible with All Browsers

One of the most important features of cPanel is that it works with all web browsers. Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer are all compatible with it. It also accepts third-party add-ons to enhance the website’s functionality. It accepts all types of add-ons, including on-site blogs, guest blogs, digital marketing blogs, and e-books.

5. Reliability and Support

cPanel can detect faults and restart the system for a more up-to-date service.

“If there’s a plus side, there’s certain to be a down side.” That is the energy law. cPanel, like anything else on the earth, has both positive and negative aspects, despite its long list of great characteristics. Let’s have a look at the downsides.

Easy Target for Hackers

cPanel is a prime target for the hackers because they give them access to hundreds of websites and the valuable data ingested by their users, such as personally identifiable information (PII), personal health information (PHI), credit card information, login credentials, and more. To obtain access to these web hosting services, sophisticated malware is no longer required. Instead, fraudsters can use genuine credentials obtained from dark web markets to attack a recently disclosed two-factor authentication (2FA) flaw. Recorded Future shows how threat actors employ a simple technique and how important it is to patch web hosting technology to safeguard enterprises all across the world from data theft.

2. Authorized files Access

Without authorization, you will not be evaluating files. Before you may review all of the files, you must first give your permission. However, by adjusting the settings to generate files for fetch access and setting up a password, this problem can be resolved.

3. Expensive

You will have to pay more for cPanel than any of its competitors. It is well worth the money, however it will be challenging to implement for small businesses with limited resources.

Conclusion

There are some disadvantages to cPanel, but they are easily outweighed by the numerous benefits it offers. We’ll have to accept the fact that cPanel is the market leader and the first choice for many of the corporate behemoths.

Visit https://www.helptoinstall.com/ to get your Cloud, Server Software Installation, Deployment, and Migration services in a cost-effective pricing scheme.

Backups are one of the most critical things to do, as you’ve already heard several times. Since you need to have a backup of your website data in case something goes wrong or you just want to transfer the data somewhere else.

Even if your hosting company assists you in creating a backup, we strongly advise you to do so yourself. You can do that fairly quickly with cPanel.

From your dashboard, look for and open the Backup Wizard tool.

On the new window, click Backup.

You can now choose between a complete or partial backup. Select Full Backup.

You can create a backup and save the archive file in a variety of ways. Here you’ll have four choices:

Home Directory — saving the file on the same server
Remote FTP Server — using FTP to save the backup file on a remote server
Remote FTP Server (Passive Mode Transfer) — using passive FTP mode to save the backup file
SCP (Secure Copy Protocol) — using SCP to transfer the file to another server

Click Generate Backup. The backup file can take some time to create depending on the size of your account.

Having remote MySQL access can be advantageous for a variety of reasons. Remote hosts (different servers) can access your MySQL database using this function. For example, if you want to make the database available to a third party, such as a shopping cart application.

Find Remote MySQL Feature

Under the Databases section, look for and open the Remote MySQL® tool.

Allowing Remote Server Access to Your Databases

In the Host area, type the hostname or IP address. You can use your public IP address, to access the database from localhost. Alternatively, type a fully eligible domain name, such as www.jkucart.com, and then press Add Host.

Deleting Remote Server Access.

You can do the following to revoke previously granted access:

In the Manage Access Hosts list, find the hostname you want to drop and press Delete.

A confirmation window will appear, and all you have to do now is press Remove Access Host.

That’s what there is to it. Remote access to your MySQL databases can be enabled and disabled with ease. Please don’t grant permission to an unauthorised individual for security purposes.
